Aishwarya angry with Priyanka

Aishwarya Rai Bachchan is bit upset with Priyanka Chopra when she in her winning speech regarded Ash as beautiful but did not mention anything about her acting talent. Priyanka, the winner of the Filmfare best actress award for Fashion said that she was very happy to be nominated (Fashion, Dostana) among the likes of the beautiful Aishwarya Rai (Jodhaa Akbar) and the talented Kajol (U, Me Aur Hum).

Priyanka’s statement did not go well with Ash who is a winner of many national and international awards and sounds little disturbed. An actor who was present at the function said, on condition of anonymity, "Priyanka should have chosen her words carefully. How can Priyanka sideline Aishwarya's acting abilities?"

"Aishwarya rarely loses her cool. But this time, she did. She is mighty upset with Priyanka," added our source.

Priyanka is flying high these days with so many hits to her credit and may be it is her ego that spoke out during the event.

Salman Khan's outburst on camera

Bollywood actor Salman Khan lost his temper during Amrita Arora and Shakeel Ladak’s wedding on Thursday (March 5) in Mumbai, where film world’s top celebrities were in attendance. According to reports, Salman was in high spirits when he came to the party. Everything was okay till Shahrukh Khan arrived at the sangeet party of Amrita and Shakeel within 15 minutes of Salman Khan’s arrival.

The reporters, surprised to see both the Khans under the same roof, questioned Salman on whether he and SRK have buried the hatchet between them. An agitated Salman retorted with a “Why do you care?” several times, and then in a bid to escape the media left not in his Mercedes Benz but in an autorickshaw! This infuriated the actor so much that he decided to leave the ceremony instantly.

After throwing a few quick repartees at the media, Salman is reported to have got into an auto rickshaw and requested the driver to take him home. The excited driver is said to have driven a few yards, only to be stopped by Salman’s body guards and friends.

However, the other Khan in question, SRK, was diplomatic to the question. “I wish Salman Khan and his family and Amu and family all the best.” What was meant to be a night of partying for many Bollywood celebrities, finally turned into another Salman scene because of his erratic behaviour. Hopefully, the actor will learn to keep a lid on his temper in the future.

Shahid Kapoor’s bike famous among celebrities

Shahid Kapoor’s sporty Yamaha MT 01 bike was the eye of envy at Yashraj Studios. Ogling at her weren’t ordinary citizens but apne stars Ranbir Kapoor, Imran Khan and Abhishek Bachchan. “An excited Abhishek Bachchan even called John to have a dekko at the bike. John was shooting a promo for New York in the same building and rushed down to see it,” said a witness.

John has always been a bike freak. “John loved the mean machine and kept staring at it. The bike had become a hot topic of discussion among the boys. The guys took turns to feel and sit over the bike. John not only praised Shahid’s Rs. 15 lac bike but also rode it. But all the actor surrounding the bike was quite a site for the on-lookers.”

Meanwhile Kabir Khan was surprised not to find John and came down to look for him. But captivated by the bike;’s beauty he too joined the gang.

Divya Dutta gets famous as Jalebi

While Sonam Kapoor has been branded Masakalli thanks to her role in Rakeysh Omprakash Mehra's "Delhi-6", her co-star Divya Dutta is now being called Jalebi.

Divya has been flooded with calls and messages saying "Jalebi, Mujhe Mard Bana De", which happens to be a dialogue in the movie, says an industry source.

"It's funny that people have caught on to that dialogue! But I'm glad that people have appreciated my performance. This role was a challenge and wouldn't have got the recognition it has without Rakyesh's help and constant encouragement. I want to thank everyone for all their love and support," said Divya.

Big B kick starts IFFA voting weekend in Mumbai

Friday morning saw Amitabh Bachcan, the IIFA Brand Abassador kick start the voting weekend for the 10th International Indian Film Academy Awards or IIFA awards 2009.

Every year members from the film fraternity cast their votes, which decide the nominations for the main awards, to be held from June 11-13 of this year. And Bachchan seemed to be in a good mood as he set the IIFA ball rolling.

Bachchan said, “They have a screen, they put all the categories, then you have a thing called mouse, then you move it around and you pick your best actor or actress. It goes down the computer as a vote and then it goes to PWC and it remains secret till June when the IIFA takes place.”

Currently in it's 10th year, the IIFA is an annual weekend getaway for Bollywood at an international venue which ends with an awards ceremony.

Being a heavily sponsored event, we checked whether the current global economic slowdown would affect the IIFA awards in any way.

Bachchan said, “I always like to believe that the film industry is recession free. Whenever you don't have money to buy a car or go to a mall, you go and see a cinema because you have to go out, you need to entertain yourself but that's what everyone says and to a large extent that is true, but eventually its audience choice and if the audience doesn't like a film then obviously your film doesn't run.. and if the film doesn't run then money doesn't circulate. But yes in the film industry traditionally there has been no recession in any part of the world.”

Held in Bangkok last year, Poland, Shanghai, Macau and Istanbul - are currently in the running for being chosen as the venue for IIFA 2009.

Masand's movie review: Karma Aur Holi, an unholy mess

Karma Aur Holi is a film devoid of any artistic merit. It's a bad film in every sense of the word, and it's bad in so many ways, it's difficult to even explain.

Directed in English by Manish Gupta, Karma Aur Holi stars Sushmita Sen and Randeep Hooda as an NRI couple who invite a bunch of their friends to celebrate Holi at their sprawling home in suburban New York. The premise itself is unoriginal and boring – take a bunch of varied characters, throw them into a room, and pretty soon the masks come off and their secrets come tumbling out.

There's a chance this film might have been half-interesting if the characters weren't such stereotypes. An over-protective mother, a push-over wife, a horny teenager – you name it, you'll find them in the film.

To make matters worse, the acting is so poor, you're convinced the cast was made to work at half-price. Featuring a mixed bag ensemble including Rati Agnihotri, Suresh Oberoi, Suchitra Krishnamoorthy, Naomi Campbell, Deepal Shaw and a smattering of white and black unknowns, Karma Aur Holi earns the dubious distinction of 'Worst Performance Ever By An Ensemble Cast'.

Their accents are all over the place, the dialogue is unintentionally hilarious, and not one single actor in this lot seems convinced by his role.

With its amateurish attempts to address racism and cultural stereotyping, the film comes off looking pretentious and misguided too.

There are some films that are so bad, they're actually great fun. Karma Aur Holi is exactly that kind of film. Take a big group of friends and head to the multiplex, a good laugh is guaranteed.

One out of five for director Manish Gupta's Karma Aur Holi. It's an unholy mess and I'm amazed Sushmita and the other actors didn't have the good sense to chuck this script into the bin.

Masand's movie review: 13B is tiring than scary

The ominously titled supernatural film 13B has a smart premise involving a joint family of eight moving into a plush new apartment where strange, inexplicable things begin to happen to its residents, pretty much duplicating the events and dramatics of a new television soap that the ladies of this house are addicted to.

So if a character on the show is involved in a mishap, you can be sure a similar accident will occur with a family member at home. Oddly enough, only one member of the family – the character played by R Madhavan – seems to notice this striking coincidence even though it's staring them all in the face.

When these incidents become more and more fatal, Madhavan enlists the help of his police officer buddy and immerses himself into finding the truth.

Right away 13B sucks you into its drama because it's set in an urban, middle-class neighborhood, and is treated like the kind of tragedy that could happen to just about anyone. Unlike your typical Bollywood horror film, there are no abandoned mansions here, none of that tantric mumbo-jumbo we've come to associate with paranormal stories.

Cleverly, director Vikram Kumar uses everyday appliances like mobile phones and television sets and even the automatic elevator as tools to spook you.

And yet, although it's appropriately chilling in its early set-up scenes, 13B doesn't deliver more than a few good scares. The film trudges on and on lethargically for as long as two-hours-and-thirty-minutes, fracturing the narrative with unnecessary songs and even some pointless melodrama in its second half. What could have been a nerve-racking suspense turns out to be a predictable thriller ultimately.

Of course, what separates a good thriller film from an ordinary one is sharp writing. When you've finished watching a thriller and you go over it in your mind retracing every step with the suspense now revealed, you should be able to see how cleverly the surprise ending was withheld from the audience. Try The Sixth Sense, for example.

But 13B is the kind of convenient thriller where you do get a twist ending, but the kind in which anything goes. The logic behind the twist and the back-story to the supernatural premise is so convoluted, it's hardly clever.

PC Sreeram's photography lends an eerie chill, and he does it without resorting to the excess use of darkness. There's also some credible acting from Madhavan and Neetu Chandra who plays his unsuspecting wife. Still, the film is at best an average thriller, not least because it leaves a dozen questions unanswered and the viewer overcome with fatigue.

Two out of five for director Vikram Kumar's 13B. Sadly it tires you more than it scares you; it's hardly what I'd call a must-watch.

Hrithik Roshan's mom is now well

Hrithik Roshan could not attend the Filmfare award function as there was a bit of a health scare at his residence. The superstar's mom fell ill on the evening when he was awarded best actor for "Jodhaa Akbar".

"She's well now. Everything will be fine in time," Hrithik said Wednesday.

Hrithik also regrets missing out the award evening Saturday. "It ('Jodhaa Akbar') was a special film on many counts. It was my first historical and costume drama and I'm unlikely to do another of this for a long time. 'Jodhaa Akbar' was a radical departure from anything I've done so far. And I couldn't have asked for a better culmination after two years of gruelling hard work."

Hrithik's father Rakesh Roshan said: "We were all getting ready for the Filmfare awards, looking forward to Hrithik bringing home another trophy when my wife complained of uneasiness. We couldn't take a risk as she had a heart scare earlier."

However, Pinky Roshan didn't have to be rushed to a hospital. "It never came to that," Rakesh said.

"We called the doctor home and Pinky's condition was under control after medication. Anything could've happened. That's is why we decided to regretfully cancel our evening at the Filmfare awards. But I'm sure there will be many more occasions for Hrithik to get awards."

The minute I set my eyes on Shakeel I knew he was THE man I'll marry: Amrita Arora

It’s arguably the most important day of her life. And Amrita Arora is naturally excited as she prepares for her Christian wedding to beau Shakeel Ladak. The nikaah is two days later.

“We were supposed to have a church wedding today, ” Amrita chatters excitedly as the makeup lady does her most challenging job ever for the actress. “But there were some security hassles. So we quickly moved the venue to Olive. But no hassles because we always had a standby ready. ”

Amrita gives full credit to her sister Malaika for all the arrangements.

“I know nothing about the wedding arrangement. It was all done by my sister who put her own life on hold to look into my wedding details. I’m blessed to have such a supportive family.

I’ve my wedding today (Wednesday 4 March) and I’m talking to you while my folks are taking care of everything, ” the bride got emotional as her mother reminded her she needed to hurry up with the dressing up. But Amrita decided to get introspective.

“You know, the minute I set my eyes on Shakeel I knew he was the man I wanted to marry. It’s like a karmic connection. I just felt it. I had never felt this before. Shakeel is everything that I want my husband to be. And I’m determined to make our marriage work. I’ll do whatever it takes.”

Ask her about the honeymoon which will follow the sangeet on Thursday and the nikaah on Friday and Amrita shrugs, “ The problem is, both Shakeel and I are so widely traveled we’ve nowhere to go that we can claim as being our private honeymoon spot.

There doesn’t seem to be any place that neither of us has not visited. I guess we’ll just hold each other’s hand close our eyes and point to any part of the globe as our honeymoon spot. It doesn’t matter where we go as long as we’re together. ”

TV host Hussain out of work, but doesn't mind the break

Reality show "Indian Idol" has come to an end and curtains will soon come down on long-running soap "Kumkum - Ek Pyara Sa Bandhan" too, leaving popular television actor and host Hussain Kuwajerwala temporarily out of work.

"I have no idea what I will be doing now. I don't have anything in hand. Most probably, I'll be looking at better shows and try and do something exciting and challenging. But I'm not sure what. I usually never plan anything in life," Hussain told IANS on phone from Mumbai.

Hussain's association with the small screen dates back to 1998 when he started his career with "Aashirwad". He then went on to do serials like "Kyunkii Saas Bhi Kabhi Bahu Thi", "Krishna Arjun" and "Kumkum".

His popularity was on an all-time high when he won the second season of dance reality show "Nach Baliye" with his wife Tina. Hosting reality shows like "Kisme Kitna Hai Dum", "Khullja Sim Sim 2", two seasons of "Indian Idol" and "Nach Baliye 3" made him a household name.

Now Hussain plans to enjoy time with his wife since he has no shows in hand. "We are planning to go out and relax for sometime before something new comes up," he said.

The actor, who essayed the role of Sumeet Wadhwa in "Kumkum" for nearly seven years, is sad that the show is ending, but is also very satisfied with the way it turned out.

"'Kumkum' has given all of us (cast and crew) a lot in life and at least I have no complaints. But I do feel sad that it is coming to an end because my association with it has been almost seven years. The show was a love story and the fact that we managed to keep the show alive for so long makes us very proud," he said.

"The cast and technical team has been the same for so long and we have been consistent with our work - all in all I'm extremely satisfied that the show is ending on a good note."

While Hussain has had a successful stint on TV, he doesn't rule out trying his luck in Bollywood.

"I am looking at the option definitely, but it isn't easy. I want to do good films and if I do get any, I would love to try my hand at it. I have been in the industry for long enough now, so getting into Bollywood is a matter of now or never for me," he said.

The 30-plus actor says he is open to do all sorts of films as he doesn't want to be stereotyped.

"I don't want to limit myself to any genre or type of film. I have a broader perspective of looking at things and have kept myself open for everything. I don't draw limitations for myself. I never thought I could host a show but did it successfully," he said.

Wife slaps serial-kisser Emraan for kissing others

ow, this is a plain fact that has been accepted by Emraan Hashmi and wife Parveen Hashmi.

In a recent interview with an international magazine, the couple comes out in the open about their beautiful relationship. They talked about almost everything, right from their courtship days, how Emraan, true to his intense on-screen lover image, stalked and wooed Parveen and kept persuading her till she finally said 'yes', and right down to their life after marriage!

Images: Ayesha Takia's lavish wedding

Also, Emraan has said many times that he will stop kissing as he has a fight with his wife every time he is required to do a kissing scene. But what came as a shock was the revelation that Parveen has slapped Emraan quite a few times for kissing on-screen, during trial shows of the concerned movies. And this was revealed in a very light hearted manner by the couple.

Events: Meet the Dev D girls

Though on many previous occasions, Emraan had given statements that he would stop kissing on-screen after marriage, but he could not stick to his promise, so strong was his image. In fact, quite a few films in which Emraan did not kiss failed to set the cash registers ringing.

Of course, it is another matter that the films were too bad, but nonetheless the serial kisser is now riding high (despite a lovingly furious wife!) with back-to-back success in Jannat and Raaz-The Mystery Continues....

Kylie demands special menu during India stay

Kylie is shooting for her maiden Bollywood venture in Shree Ashtavinayak Cine Vision Ltd's underwater thriller "Blue". The Grammy award winner is staying at the Renaissance Hotel here with her manager and assistant.

Famous for her foot-tapping numbers, elaborate music videos and expensively mounted stage shows, the "Fever" crooner apparently headed straight for a meeting with the head chef of the hotel Jose M. Ruiz when she arrived here to inform him about her eating likes and dislikes.

"They don't order room service at all. Every time they want to eat anything they call up directly the head chef. They don't even order any specific dish they want. They just ask him to prepare any combination or anything for them out of their pre-laid eating list," a source from the production unit told IANS.

"Irrespective of his shift timings, the chef too gets something special made for them out of the stuff they like to eat, as Kylie shares a great comfort level with him and places all her requests only to him," the source added.

The 40-year-old singer landed in India Feb 26 and was received with much fanfare, a traditional welcome and tight security at the Mumbai airport.

Minogue, who is here till March 8 is playing herself in "Blue" and has also lent vocals to a song for the movie.

Having already recorded the song in her London studio, she is shooting for the same with the cast of the film including Akshay Kumar, Sanjay Dutt, Zayed Khan and Lara Dutta.

Sanjay, Abhishek visit Amar Singh in hospital

Mumbai, March 3 (IANS) When Samajwadi Party leader Amar Singh was admitted to a hospital here for a "check-up", he had two Bollywood film stars calling on him - Sanjay Dutt and Abhishek Bachchan.

Amar Singh was admitted to the newly-inaugurated Kokilabehn Hospital Monday and Sanjay, who has joined the Samajwadi Party recently, was prompt to visit the leader. Also present was Abhishek, whose father Amitabh is a close friend of Amar Singh and mother Jaya is a member of the Samajwadi Party.

Sanjay and Abhishek called upon the politician between 3 p.m. and 6 p.m. Monday.

"While Abhishek spent about two hours, Sanjay Dutt was with Amar Singh-ji much longer. Their mutual concern for the politician was very touching and genuine," an informed source said.

Asked about his visit, Sanjay said: "Amar Singh-ji has been admitted for a full body check-up."

Freida Pinto gets new guardian angel

London, Hollywood's new darling Freida Pinto who climbed the international ladder with Oscar winning drama "Slumdog Millionaire" has found a new mentor in starlet Scarlett Johansson.

Pinto, who has been signed by Woody Allen in what will be only her second film, came across Johansson at the Milan Fashion Week Tuesday morning, reports dailymail.co.uk.

The "Lost In Translation" star, a Hollywood veteran by comparison, took the 24-year-old Indian model-turned-actress Pinto under her wing backstage at the VIP room.

Pinto also mingled with the likes of Kate Hudson and Claudia Schiffer at the Dolce and Gabbana catwalk show.

Clad in a cream tunic trimmed with embellishment and a statement belt, she cut a calm, not to mention glamorous figure as she posed for photographers with the veteran actresses like an A-lister.

Pinto is lined up to rub shoulders with Hollywood stars Josh Brolin, Naomi Watts and Anthony Hopkins in the yet untitled film.

Top sex mistakes men make

here just isn’t any other way to say it – a sex slip-up just isn’t sexy, and to save all men from bedroom ‘disasters’, a leading sexologist has

A guide to save men from sex slip-ups...

come to the rescue.

Dr. Yvonne K. Fulbright, a sex educator, relationship expert, columnist and founder of Sexuality Source Inc., has come up with top mistakes men make in bed...

The biggest mistakes men make include:

1. Foreplay doesn't start in the sack
The timer for enticing does not start once you hit the sheets. Your pre-game show is best approached as an all day affair.

Women love to be wooed. Sex is a head game — in more ways than one - and women want to know you can’t get them out of your mind. We love knowing that we are desired.

2. Don't head south straight away
A woman needs to be properly aroused before any below-the-belt action feels good. Be sure to focus on her entire body - head to toe - before going for the gold.

3. Get to that G spot
In digging for buried treasure, many guys don’t know that “X” doesn’t always mark the spot. Found on the front wall of the vagina, a woman’s G spot may be a little higher or lower, or more to one side than the other, than often depicted.

4. Don't be too goal-oriented
There is nothing more endearing than a man who wants to play. Just don’t get caught up in yourself. Your sexual exploration should be playtime for two.

Stay “present” in the moment - connecting with your partner will bring the ultimate climax for both of you.

5. Let her be naughty
Sometimes she needs to get in touch with her adulterated side. In fact, research has found that women are more aroused by explicit fantasies than romantic ones. It's not always about the prince on a white horse or canoodling on the beach.

6. She's not a porn star
As seen in porn films, many men expect their lovers to fulfill their every fantasy. Remember that porn is fantasy, not reality. Expecting her to act like a porn star is simply not fair.

7. And men aren't supposed to look like porn stars
Despite what XXX-rated films indicate, most women are not lusting after a three-legged man. Maybe some women are up for the challenge, but many are fine with the guy who fits within the norm. Don’t be too hard on yourself for being just that.

8. One orgasm is not always enough
Women are not as quick to come down from their aroused state as men are post-sex. Many can be launched right back to bliss, and many women do crave more action and orgasms, even if they were perfectly satisfied the first time round.

Narnia's third edition to hit theatres in 2010

The third film in the super hit fantasy franchise, "Narnia: The Voyage of the Dawn Treader" has been set for a winter release in December 2010.

The films, based on a seven book series by C S Lewis, have been a huge success, with the two film installments grossing over USD 2 billion as box office collections.

The producers of the film, reportedly chose a winter release because the second film, "The Chronicles of Narnia: Prince Caspian" which was released in May, 2008 did not do as well as the first film, "The Chronicles of Narnia", which had a December release in 2005.

The film hopes to cash in on the festive Christmas spirit to achieve box office success, reported the Aceshowbiz.com.

The film was expected to release earlier but the delay suggests that the studio feels that "Narnia" franchise is "winter material".

"The Chronicles of Narnia: The Voyage of the Dawn Treader" will be directed by Michael Apted and will mark the comeback of the original star cast of Ben Barnes, Skandar Keynes and Georgie Henley.

In the latest installment, Lucy and Edmund Pevensie will make their third trip back to Narnia. Accompanied by their cousin Eustace, they meet up with Prince Caspian on a trip across the sea.

Abhi Ash in Rajiv Menon's Next as Well

Abhishek Bachchan and his wife Aishwarya Rai Bachchan have suddenly signed quite a few films together. Currently they are working in Mani Ratnam's next. If reports are to be believed, then the two will also be doing Rajiv Menon's next as well.
According to reports, ace cinematographer, Menon's next has been titled Dhun and will be produced by Eros International. Good friend AR Rahman will be composing the music for this movie, which is about musicians. The film is not based on Hrishikesh Mukherjee's Abhimaan, which starred Amitabh and wife Jaya Bachchan. The only similarity seems to be the fact that both the protagonists play musicians in the movie. Dhun, incidentally, will be the third film that Abhi and Ash will be doing together this year. The first is Mani's film, then there is Dhun and finally there is a film which will be directed by Abhinay Deo. Ash has a few more big ones lined up as she is all set to work in Sanjay Leela Bhansali's next opposite Hrithik Roshan and Vipul Shah's Action Replay with Akshay Kumar. She may be doing films with Vishal Bharadwaj and Rituparno Sengupta as well. Beisdes these movies, Ash also has Endhiran, formerly called the Robot, opposite Rajnikanth, which is nearing completion. So a busy year ahead for her, but it helps if half of her films are opposite her husband. There is a lot more together time that they can spend together.

Amrita Arora's church wedding cancelled

The ceremony will take place at a restaurant in Bandra now

Amrita Arora is shattered! Yesterday her family got a call from the authorities at the Mt Mary Basilica stating that she couldn't have her grand church wedding there due to security issues.

The bride-to-be had invited 150 guests to her church wedding.

Says a family friend, "We were all shocked when we got a call from Amu saying her wedding at Mt Mary was cancelled because of lack of security arrangements.

Apparently, the church called up yesterday and told Amu's mother Joyce that the church was public property and they couldn't allow a private function on public property.

They said any uninvited person could come in and attend the wedding and her family would have to provide security arrangements and the church couldn't take responsibility. After much deliberation, they family decided to cancel the wedding at that venue."

Fortunately, Amrita and her family were prepared for this. "Apparently, the church had informed them earlier that this could happen and they were trying to work their way around it.

Though they wished it wasn't at the last moment, they will now go ahead with the wedding at Olive's in Bandra tomorrow morning at 11 am, followed by lunch at the same venue."

We tried to contact Father Neris Rodericks, the priest in charge of Mt Mary's Basilica but he wasn't available. When we called the office of the Mt Mary Basilica and spoke about our story a voice said, "No comments at all," and hurriedly disconnected.

Shilpa Shetty grieves for her dead cat

Grieves death of her cat

Shilpa Shetty just lost her pet cat of twelve years Simba. And she's struggling to deal with the loss.

"It's very hard for those who don't have pets to understand what losing one means.

People have been insensitive enough to actually laugh when I say I lost a dear member of my family. We have several cats in our home. But each one is special."

See who sent Sonam that off-shoulder gown

Sonam Kapoor’s metamorphosis as a fashion diva came a full circle on Saturday night at the Filmfare awards when she became the only Bollywood actress to wear a specially-designed gown by Chanel.

Hours before the awards the ebullient actress could barely contain her excitement. “I just kept staring at the beautiful basic but simple white gown that they sent me. Yes I think I’m the first Indian celebrity to be dressed up by Chanel in Bollywood. I’m so excited. I felt like Cinderella before the ball. Never before have I been so excited about dressing up for an event.”

Apparently after seeing Sonam’s spate of sophisticated magazine covers Chanel voluntarily decided to send her a gown from their special-celebrity closet.

“That’s right. My off-shoulder gown came from their special-celebrity collection, ” laughs Sonam triumphantly. “They just flew over three Chanel gowns for me to choose from.

I liked the white one. I prefer light shades. And I avoid accessories. They take away from the basic look of your clothes. And what Chanel sent me for the Filmfare awards certainly needed no enchancement. It was divine per se.”

A lot of designers are comparing Sonam to Penelope Cruz. “It was Mr Sanjay Leela Bhansali who first compared me to her. I think it’s a huge compliment. It isn’s as if I’m making a conscious effort to dress fashionably. I wear what I’m comfortable in.”

Sridevi’s wedding

Actress Sridevi, daughter of the actor couple Vijayakumar - Manjula, is all set to enter the matrimonial bliss. Sridevi will get engaged to Rahul in a ceremony that will be held on the 15th of this month. The bridegroom owns a computer business in Hyderabad. The wedding is scheduled to be held on the 18th of June. Sources say that this is an arranged marriage.

Sanjay Dutt-Akshay Kumar: Hosts turned hostile

he ongoing animosity between Sanjay Dutt-Akshay Kumar has further intensified because of pop sensation Kylie Minogue. Kylie is in India to shoot her portions in the Akshay-Sanjay starrer, Blue.

The acrimony between the two actors has magnified and it’s because Akshay’s playing the gracious (and self-appointed?) host to Kylie. Sanjay’s family and friends argue that along with Akshay, Sanju too is one of the leading men of Blue. A source close to Sanjay puts it succinctly, “Why is Akshay acting as Kylie’s lone host?”

While Sanjay shrugs and laughs off the attention showered on the pretty Australian guest by her ‘unofficial host’, people close to Sanju are far from amused by Akshay’s attempt at self-promotion.

In fact, the resentment in the Sanjay camp to Akshay’s monopoly act is so high that well-wishers have now persuaded Sanju to host a grand bash for Kylie. Confirming these developments, Dharam Oberoi, CEO Sanjay Dutt Films, says, “Yes, Sanjay is planning to throw a bash for Kylie. He has been busy due to his politics-related activities. We’ve persuaded him to play host to Kylie Minogue. The problem with Sanjay is he’s too laidback about competition. He doesn’t think being competitive is going to get him anywhere as he believes that what’s to come will come his way. Things don’t work that way in today’s world. Those who care for him have to constantly push him to make himself heard. But, he doesn’t listen to us.”

What apparently made Sanjay sit up this time was the fact that his role in Blue is being undermined in everybody’s mind because of the constant projection that the film primarily focuses on Akshay. “As far as we’re concerned, Sanjay is as much the film’s leading man as Akshay Kumar. Sanjay will start shooting with Kylie soon,” says Oberoi.

Stories of a tug-of-war between Sanjay and Akshay during the shooting of Blue acquire a new hue when director Anthony D’Souza, better known as Tony in the ad world, admits that it’s Sanjay who has more footage in the film.

Javed Akhtar thinks the Filmfare Awards were the Best Ever

The poet par excellence Javed Akhtar is acutely pleased by the Filmfare awards and not only because he won another of those coveted trophies for his poetic lines Kehne ko jashn-e-bahara hai in Jodhaa-Akbar.

“This is my seventh Filmfare award for lyrics and overall my fifteenth Filmfare awards…Is it a record? I don’t know. A R Rahman has won 24 Filmfare trophies. Gulzar Saab has also got plenty.”

Having said that Javed Saab thinks this was the best Filmfare award ever. “By making it a private rather than a public function, Filmfare awards have become far more organized and pleasurable. The bheed-bhaad is gone. There’s sophistication and peace.”

Javed Saab is all praise for the co-hosts. “Imran Khan and Ranbir Kapoor were simply brilliant. Their bantering was extremely humorous and not offensive at all to anyone.”

Among the award winners’ speeches Javed Saab liked Priyanka Chopra the best. “I told her she should get another award for her speech. She was so gracious to the other nominees. Her best comment was that after Dostana her father won’t mind if she brings a girl home. One feels so proud of the younger generation. I feel happy and embarrassed to be getting awards along with my own children. Lekin dil to abhi bhi chahta hoon.”

What makes this triumph special for Javed Saab who’s known to use simple transparent and accessible words, is the fact that he has used relatively high-flown lyrics this time.

“Yes, that’s true. Janshn-e-bahara is not my regular style. The film required the use of a different kind of words. We can’t use contemporary for a Mughal costume drama. I remember I used to be very close to (the legendary lyricist) Sahir Ludhianvi. At that time I knew nothing about shayari. But in his songs I’d ecounter many unfamiliar words. He explained to me, ‘Look it isn’t necessary for people to follow both lines. If they can understand the first line they can instinctively follow the second. But if listeners can’t follow both lines then the song is in trouble’

Priyanka goes de-glam for 'Kaminay'

She donned trendy mini skirts and a bikini in "Dostana" and was an absolute stunner on the ramp in "Fashion", but Priyanka Chopra is going the de-glam way for Vishal Bharadwaj's "Kaminay".

"In terms of look, it's definitely not glamorous. In fact, you don't really see me wearing too much make up in the film," Priyanka told IANS.

"Kaminay" will be her first release of 2009 as a leading lady after a hectic 2008, which saw her featuring in six back-to-back releases - "Love Story 2050", "God Tussi Great Ho", "Chamku", "Drona", "Fashion" and "Dostana".

What makes "Kaminay" special is that she has got to work with Bharadwaj, a master story teller known for giving his leading ladies a very 'real' lived-in look.

Speaking about her character in the film, Priyanka says: "Sweety is a very real character. She is a college-going girl in her early 20s and we have tried to keep her extremely believable."

"We tried to ensure that the look fits the characterisation," she adds.

Since she was seen in a glam avatar in both "Fashion" and "Dostana", did she have any apprehensions about donning an entirely distinct look in "Kaminay"?

"Not at all. It was a conscious decision. I have always striven to do different things in each and every film of mine, be it with the character or the look. That's visible in films like 'Don', 'Love Story 2050', 'Fashion' and 'Dostana'.

"In continuation of that, 'Kaminay' and 'What's Your Rashee' (by Ashutosh Gowariker) will see me essaying different characters, far removed from what I have ever played. I am very excited about both!"

Oscars were a great moment for my mother: Rahman

Veeraraghav TM: Sir, take us to every moment at that Oscar ceremony. I want you to tell me what went through your mind the moment you heard Resul Pookutty's name being announced.

AR Rahman: I was so thrilled. I was in the dressing room, rehearsing but I was so happy for him. Something gave me a positive vibe that if Resul and Simon have got it, then it was a possibility. Till then I had no expectations. I was so happy for Resul.

Veeraraghav TM: And when the announcement was made, when your name was pronounced....

AR Rahman: Very strange, Alicia Keys and the other gentleman asked me Mr Rahman what do you want me to call you and I said AR Rahman so I had to practice for two days because everybody messed it up.

Veeraraghav TM: And what was the thought that crossed your mind when your name was announced the second time. The one thought that bombarded you?

AR Rahman: I relaxed, I became very philosophical that is why all those things came about, the film, the optimism, the choice.

Fathima Rafique (Rahman’s sister): When he got the first Oscar he said mere paas maa hai (I have my mother) and she's come all the way for me and her blessings are there with me. When he told these words, tears welled in my eyes and I was really happy.

AR Rahman: I felt that it was a great moment for her for helping me make a choice over music otherwise I would have been an engineer or something.

Bharat Bala: I think the special relationship with his mother that is something that everybody really has to understand. The bonding with his mother saw to it that she knew him, there was something special about him. How she persevered him and pushed him and kept him on track.
