Ranvir Shorey and Bollywood babes
The new blue-eyed boy of tinsel town, Ranvir Shorey, is on different high these days. Obviously with something similar in most of his movies. And you guessed it all wrong! It's not the light hearted or funny characters, which he portrays usually, but the leading ladies with whom he is being paired opposite these days - from Madhuri Dixit to Mallika Sherawat and hold your breathe, Katrina Kaif, this lucky dude could manage to bag enough opportunities to woo these hotties on screen. He played various characters that tickled the funny bones through hit films like PYAAR KE SIDE EFFECTS, KHOSLA KA GHOSLA but he grabbed the media focus with his intense role and pairing opposite Konkona Sen Sharma in TRAFFIC SIGNAL. When asked about his experience with Konkona he said, 'Konkana is a very measured person. She knows what she wants. She is next to perfectionism. On work part she will never compromise. She is inborn talent, acting skills is in her blood vein.' After a notable performance, his journey embarked to few more popular films with some dazzling ladies of Bollywood like Diya Mirza in HONEYMOON TRAVELS PVT LTD., wherein he was cast as Diya's spouse. 'Diya is very warm-hearted, beautiful person, her soft-spoken persona will definitely melt you (smilingly), and seriously as an actor also she is quite good,' informed Ranvir. He did the critically acclaimed and commercially successful film BHEJA FRY, wherein he had a character driven role.

But due to date problems, she could not sign on the dotted line earlier.Sources also reveal that Shankar may be successful this time in getting a positive reply from Ash as Rajnikanth shares a special rapport with her father-in-law Big B who might influence her decision. Discussions are on and we will keep you posted…

Shah Rukh Kehta Hai Tu Khoobsurat Hai
As is known to all film enthusiasts by now, the wispy haired and multi-faceted Makrand Deshpande is working hard on his next directorial venture (after DREAM MAN), SHAH RUKH KEHTA HAI TU KHOOBSURAT HAI. According to sources, Makrand rolled the 'mahurat' shot on 2nd November 2007, which coincided with Shah Rukh Khan's birthday. Makrand plans to start shooting soon and is looking for fresh talents for his film. It is widely believed that Makrand Despande, who got along very well with SRK during the making of SWADES (2004), went ahead with the movie and its title, only after getting a nod from Bollywood's global superstar. Our sources also confirm that King Khan has agreed to a guest appearance in the film.

Besides her film which will consolidate that position, Brand Kareena, like SRK & Big B, is also known as the 'Endorsement Queen' in endorsement bandwagon. Kareena high profile endorsement brands consists of Globus, ICI Paints, Head & Shoulders, Boro plus cream, Citizen watch etc..

Kareena’s new love
Bebo has a new love and no, it’s not Saif for a change. Any guesses guys? Well, the new love of her life happens to be her little niece Samira. We hear that whenever Kareena is in town, she spends maximum time playing with her niece. “She picks her up from school, goes swimming and playing with her niece. She absolutely adores her niece and can’t live without her even for a single day when she’s in town,” says a friend. We wonder if Saif is feeling jealous already.
Zayed's Khandaan gears up to celebrate baby's arrival
It was a ray of hope among all the flops that Bollywood actor Zayed Khan has been giving of late. It was finally something to be proud of, a reason to celebrate.
Zayed and his wife Malaika became proud parents — and the youngest parents in the Mumbai film industry — on Friday.
The baby boy, healthy despite coming two weeks too soon, was delivered at Mumbai's Breach Candy hospital and has been named Zidaan Zayed Abbas Khan because Zayed was particularly keen that his child's name start with the letter Z.
The entire Khandaan is of course ecstatic and plan to throw a huge party in true Khan style as soon as Malaika is up and about.
The baby according to Zayed looks a bit like him and a bit like Malaika. The actor plans to take a break from his shooting schedule to be with the baby and spend some quality time with his wife.

"Shilpa has emerged the most famous Indian in UK. Aishwarya with Rajni?
Lot of news and gossips on Rajinikanth’s ‘Robot’ are coming out day in and day out. The latest buzz about the film is that the beauty queen Aishwarya Rai Bachchan would be paired opposite superstar in Shankar’s ‘Robot’. Shankar who had been to Mumbai recently, was believed to have met Aishwarya Rai.
It is rumored that Shankar went to Mumbai in the first week of January and discussed the script and her role with Ash. Aishwarya, according to the grapevine, had gone through the script thoroughly. She is yet to decide about ‘Robot’.
Shankar is very keen that ‘Robot’ must be bigger than ‘Sivaji’. It is quite natural to rope in a big star like Aish, who has international acceptance, into ‘Robot’, which will be the biggest ever film to be produced in India.
Moreover, since the film is planned to be made simultaneously in Hindi, Tamil and Telugu, Aishwarya will be the right choice, as she has popularity all over the nation.
Aishwarya’s name has been associated with Rajini’s films since ‘Padayappa’. Now he is signed for a new film and the name of Aish surfaces again. It will be interesting to see whether the most popular actress of India will pair up with the biggest superstar of India this time.

Shweta to do Tina’s role
Says producer Bhushan Kumar, “We were looking for a new actress with a fresh face and somebody’s who’s not established. We got to know that Shweta is interested in acting and auditioned her. I’m sure she will be able to do justice to the role. She’s very confident.” Well, let’s see if she’ll be able to match up to Himesh and Urmila’s histrionics
Reshammiya's new heroine, new look
After several actresses reportedly refused to be cast opposite him, the leading lady of the remake of 1980s hit Karz, starring Himesh Reshammiya, has finally been found.
Director Indra Kumar's daughter Shweta will make her debut opposite the actor-singer-composer in Karzzzz.
Produced by Bhushan Kumar and Krishan Kumar, Karzzzz is a remake of Subhash Ghai's 1980s film about reincarnation.
While Shweta is cast in the role played by Tina Munim in the original blockbuster, Reshammiya steps into the shoes of Rishi Kapoor.
T-Series has bought the remake rights from Mukta Arts for the original film.
Directed by Satish Kaushik, the film also stars Urmila Matondkar, Gulshan Grover, Danny Denzongpa , Rohini Hatangadi and Raj Babbar.
After Aap Kaa Surroor, Reshammiya will once again act, sing and compose the music for the film which will be shot in South Africa, Kenya and Mumbai and will go on floors from January 28.
There’s a one reason why all Reshammiya fans can look forward to this one: He will be seen without his trademark cap and will wear his long locks loose.

Ash soon as possible
Apparently, John Abraham is peeved with his director Sriram Raghavan. John, who features in Raghavan's romantic film, is not too happy with the delay in the schedule. The film was supposed to hit the floors in December last year. The schedule ultimately got delayed due to some 'unavoidable circumstances'. The director had then promised to start filming in the first week of January, but the script is far from ready. A source close to John informs, "The actor is constantly in touch with Sriram. He has urged him to start the film as soon as possible. John has kept his dates aside since December and he is yet to start shooting."Looks like John is very eager to work with Aishwarya Rai who stars with him in the film, as he believes that this could salvage his last few films– No Smoking, Salam-E-Ishq and Kabul Express– which have not set the cash registers ringing. If sources are to be believed, he has been frequently calling up the producer Rohan Sippy and urging him to start filming at the earliest. It may be recalled that John was supposed to star opposite Aishwarya in Gaurang Doshi's Happy Birthday, but the film never took off. Aishwarya had walked out of the film and John had followed suit. Naturally, he doesn't want this film to have a similar fate.Speculations are rife that Aishwarya, who was holidaying in Jaipur till recently, is yet to give her dates for Raghavan's film. Reportedly, the actress wants to read the final script before reporting to the sets. Aishwarya's secretary, Hari Singh says, "Aishwarya has given her assent to the film. As far as dates are concerned, you have to check with the director and producer. She will be there the day they want to start shooting."With this film, Sriram Raghavan, who has earlier directed Ek Haseena Thi and Johnny Gaddar, is making an attempt at a love story for the first time. Raghavan, when contacted, says, "The only reason that I'm not starting the film is because I'm not thrilled with the second half. I just want to tweak some scenes before I commence shooting."
Professional Sushmita returns money to producer
Mumbai, Jan 19: Histrionic abilities may not be Sushmita Sen`s greatest plus point as an actress despite occasional flashes in movies like `Main Hoon Na` and `Filhaal`, but this former Miss Universe-turned movie star is quite a professional. Recently, she returned the advance money - or signing amount in Bollywood parlance - of Rs 2.1 million to producer Vijay Galani who had signed her up for a movie. Reason? She was not provided the bound script of the movie on time as promised. Vijay Galani Moviez had signed Sushmita for a movie to be directed by `Shaka Laka Boom Boom` director Dharmesh Darshan. The actress said she had initially agreed to do the movie after she heard its narration from the director in August last year. When she signed the Letter of Intent the next month and was paid advance money out of her total fee of Rs 10.25 million, it was agreed that a bound script would be sent to her in November. But instead of a script, what she received was a piece of paper in which the director had briefly outlined her role in the movie. Not only was she outraged at the producer going back on his word, she was also shocked that the role outlined in the piece of paper was entirely different from the director`s description of it earlier. So, by returning the signing amount, she wanted to wash her hands off the movie. A month has passed since she has returned the cheque, but Vijay Galani Moviez has not yet deposited it in the bank. The story does not end there. No sooner did Sushmita dissociate herself from the movie than Govinda, the movie`s leading man, also walked out of it saying without the actress playing the female lead, the whole concept of the movie would change. And he would not like that. `Professionalism` and solidarity exemplified by Govinda and Sushmita has put the producer in a spot and the director in a dilemma.
After HEYY BABYY, I will strive to give a bigger hit" - Sajid Khan
Sajid Khan has become the youngest debut director to deliver a blockbuster 'HEYY BABYY' which has gone down in the annals of Bollywood as one of the 10 grossing films.

No wonder that the industry which calls Sajid Nadiadwala as 'Mr. Blockbuster' for the highest percentage of hits delivered by his banner, now refer to Sajid Khan & Sajid Nadiadwala as 'Blockbuster Buddies' for the massive hit in 'HEYY BABYY' and the potential blockbuster in the making.

Amrita, Kareena:Room mates
Actors Amrita Arora and Kareena Kapoor are such thick friends that it came as no surprise to learn that they were sharing a room while on the sets of Golmaal Returns in Goa. “Kareena is easy to get along with. She has no pretensions and is very honest. It’s fun when friends are together, and a blast is what we are having on the sets of this film. From Tushki (Tusshar Kapoor) to Ajay to Arshad and Maria to Bebo..., we all get along just fine,” says Amu. A. R. Rahman launches his dream-project
Music Maestro A.R. Rahman brought in his birthday last Sunday (January 6). While other stars prefer to either throw a bash or celebrate with friends on their special day the normally shy music-director had other plans. He fulfilled one of his long term dreams to launch a music conservatory on Sunday. The institution named KM Music Conservatory will be India’s first Apple authorized training centre where professors and musicians from India and abroad will provide training and education to students in Indian and Western classical music. The institute located in Chennai, will also help in fine-tuning the skills of students who play instruments like flute, trumpet, violin, French horn and percussion. Needless to say there will be more career options open for these young talented kids once they combine their musical skill with the latest knowledge in production technology. Through this institute, Rahman would also fulfill his vision of having a full-fledged orchestra in India so that Indian composers don’t have to go abroad when they have to record with orchestras. Must say this initiative by Rahman is indeed one unique way of giving back something to the world of music.
2008 will be an 'international' year for Aishwarya Rai
The gorgeous Aishwarya Rai Bachchan may be looking forward to the release of Jodhaa Akbar , but she also seems keen to fill her kitty with a number of international films.Ash will reportedly star in one of the most expensive French film series of Asterix and Obelix. The film titled, ‘Asterix at the Olympic Games’ is reported to be one of the most expensive European films at approximately 93 million dollars.
Apparently the film is also slated to premiere in India at the prestigious French Film Festival. According to sources, the makers of the Asterix series have written a special role just for Ash.The series has not had any female characters and Ash will be the first female character in the film.Ash will be working with top international stars like Gerard Depardieu who plays Obelix, Clovis Cornillac, other international celebrities like Michael Schumacher, Jean Claude Van Damme etc. However Ash's presence in the film is not yet being revealed and she is obviously considered one of the top stars on the international front and hence she is receiving lucrative international projects. The film will also premiere in India at the French Film Festival and it is likely to coincide with Beijing Olympics of 2008.Meanwhile Ash is busy with her other international projects, she has been shooting for ‘Pink Panther’. Also she is supposed to play Mumtaz in Ben Kingsley's ‘Taj Mahal’.Now it seems that Ash has been offered another international project on the Taj, Michael Radford's Taj. But in Radford's Taj, she has been offered the role of Mandi, Salim's wife.Radford's project too will be on a large scale and he is currently trying to generate funds. However it is not yet known if Ash has accepted the role in Radford's film. Radford meanwhile says "Aishwarya is ideal for my film."Both the Taj projects will be shot in different locations in India. Ash seems keen to fill her kitty with a number of international films. So it seems that 2008 promises to be an even more exciting year ahead for Ash professionally.

Govinda unapologetic, says will slap again
Mumbai, Jan 18: Actor and MP Govinda on Friday said that he had not done anything wrong by slapping the visitor on the sets of his film `Money Hai to Honey Hai` that had led to a media furore. He told the media on the sets of his film that it was a conspiracy of Opposition parties. Govinda had slapped a visitor, Santosh Rai, on his film’s set on Wednesday. He was allegedly "misbehaving" with the artists, including with Govinda. Meanwhile, the victim Santosh has demanded an apology from Govinda and threatened to drag him to court. He has also filed an FIR at Goregaon police station, accusing Govinda of "physical assault". A case under Sec 323 has been registered against him. However, Govinda’s action found support in the form of two female artists alleging that Santosh had assaulted them on the sets and that Govinda was right in rebuking him. “ I was just standing with another girl on the sets of Money Hai to Honey Hai. That guy was pushing us around. When he was standing near Govinda and started doing the same things, the actor hit him,” said one of the girls. On the other hand, Govinda while defending his action said that he is innocent and won`t apologise to anyone but the producer who lost money due to this episode. He said that he would repeat his action if needed. Asked if his action was out of "frustration" as an actor or Member of Parliament, he said there was no question of frustration as any person would hit back in self-defence when somebody tried to get physical with him or her. Rubbishing his charges while speaking with Zee News, BJP leader Ram Naik , Govinda’s opponent from his constituency, called him a short tempered man. He also criticised Govinda for not paying attention to his constituency. The MP has been under fire for not visiting his Lok Sabha constituency for a long time and people living in suburban Malad, which comes under his constituency, had held a demonstration on Tuesday as he was not reachable while they were in distress. One person even declared a reward of Rs 1 cr to anyone who could locate the "elusive" MP. Govinda dismissed it as a "stunt" common in politics. The actor`s secretary Shashi Sinha told agencies that Govinda "was provoked by constant disturbance created by the visitor. The man was seated behind Govinda and would continuously hit the chair with his toes whenever the actor would sit down to take a break from the song sequence he was shooting".
Manisha Koirala to make her comeback...
In the 1980s, the South film industry churned out a slew of socials/family sagas with Jeetendra heading the cast. The target audience was, of course, the families. Tulsi follows the same path, but lacks the punch to stay in your memory. Sure, a few portions do make you moist-eyed, but the execution of the subject material being archaic, the glimmer of hope diminishes.Tulsi tells the story of Tulsi [ Manisha Koirala ], married to a drunkard Suraj [Irrfan]. The couple is blessed with four kids. One evening, while Suraj is away, his friend [Yashpal Sharma] tries to molest Tulsi. When Suraj gets to know of it, he beats Yashpal black and blue.
Bombay To Bangkok : Movie Review
In the season of brainless comedies, Nagesh Kukunoor’s rom-com Bombay To Bangkok strives to be different. And it is indeed different to the extent that you will scowl at the “funny” scenes, and laugh at those meant to be serious.Kukunoor’s sense of humour is not the kind an average Bollywood joe is used to. The sight of fried insects and similar gastronomic wonders of Thailand, so often highlighted in the film, is neither funny nor pleasing to the eye. At best, it makes the popcorn you just munched want to come out. Nor is hilarious the sequence of a quack prescribing Viagra to people and himself getting weak-kneed in front of a sexy massage girl.
Something is definitely amiss in this supposedly light-hearted entertainer. And it is Nagesh Kukunoor ’s attempt to be different. His straying away from what he is best at (sensible and inspiring films like Iqbal and Dor ) and his steering back into the masala genre he previously tried in the mis-adventurous ‘Bollywood Calling’.Enough of brickbats for now. Here is the story.Shankar ( Shreyas Talpade ), a small-time cook in desperate need of money, steals from none other than a dreaded don ( Naseeruddin Shah ), who unleashes his goons and a bling-savvy son to catch the thief.

Santoshi proposes, Saif disposes
Rajkumar Santoshi has started fresh talks with Saif Ali Khan for his period film, Jis Lahor Nai Dekhya Woh Janmya Hi Nahin, which is based on Dr Asghar Wajahat's book. The filmmaker, who was recently in Greece, was keen on meeting the actor who was filming for Tashan with Kareena Kapoor. The story goes that Santoshi had earlier approached Saif but the actor politely declined as he wasn't too excited about the role. An industry insider says, "There is a lot of uncertainty over Santoshi's Ashoka and the director probably wants to start this film based on Asghar Wajahat's book, the rights of which have been bought by the director. He had earlier approached Saif Ali Khan to play one of the main leads in the film but the actor had turned down the offer. After watching Kareena Kapoor playing a Punjabi character in Jab We Met, Santoshi might offer them a package deal." Govind Nihalani, who directed films like Tamas and Hazaar Chaurasi Ki Maa, had initially bought the rights of the book but failed to make a film on the subject. Asghar Wajahat's book is based on a true story of a frail Punjabi Hindu woman who is left behind in a haveli in Lahore. She refuses to leave her home although the haveli is allotted to another family. After the initial rift with the family who occupy the home, she adjusts with her 'new family' and starts living with them. After she dies, a debate over her last rites results in communal tension.

John has told us that if he ever decided to pose nude, it would be for PETA.”If John indeed does so he would be joining the likes of international celebrities like Pamela Anderson, Kim Basinger and Tyra Banks.Newkirk also adds that international male model Patrick Ribbsaeter will also do a nude PETA campaign for saving elephants in India.Anuradha Sawhney, chief functionary for PETA, India, confirms that John might pose nude for PETA. However, she adds that the campaign will be done aesthetically, “keeping Indian sensibilities in mind.”Speaking about John, Sawhney told a news channel: “John is truly concerned about animals, whether it be stray dogs or cows on the road or birds in cages. In fact, when he posed in a cage for our PETA campaign, we got such a tremendous response from people all over who wanted to know how they could help the cause.”In fact, so intense is John’s love for the animals that recently at PETA’s 8th anniversary at ITC Grand Maratha, Mumbai, he willingly went on stage and asked the celebrities there to donate generously for PETA. Within minutes he helped the organization raise a few lakh rupees.Given John’s passion, it is not surprising that he is willing to drop his clothes if doing so helps the cause of animals.

Katrina runs screaming to Salman
Hottie Katrina Kaif considered wooden for facial expressions of course, proved she is certainly a worthy acting material with Namastey London. In fact it was one of last year’s biggest hits. She is now donning a role in Subhash Ghai’s next directorial venture Main Yuvraj opposite Salman Khan and Arjun Rampal.
Music is composed by A R Rahman. In this film Katrina plays a Cellist and for this she had to practice playing the Cello. She had an instructor guiding her through the chords and even getting her posture right. She was being trained to play the movie’s theme music on the Cello. Katrina had been practicing it as though it was a piece of choreography and the moment she got it right she is said to have run to Salman and Arjun screaming in joy, only to be calmed down by director Subhash Ghai who reminded her that she has to get her act right for the next shot. Let’s hope there is more to this film than just this.

Royal attire gets Aishwarya down
Playing the Rajput consort of Mughal emperor Akbar in Jodhaa Akbar was no walk in the park for actress Aishwarya Rai Bachchan, thanks to the heavy jewellery and costumes she wore for the part.

"It was a tiring experience sometimes to go through the entire process of putting on the jewellery and wearing the dresses," she said.
"But I was thrilled to be part of the royal experience."

Sanjay's spat with Babita - Untrue
Recently it has been falsely reported that Karisma Kapoor and Sanjay Kapur have moved out of her mom's Babita's place because apparently the Son in law and Mother in law were not getting along together.
The report is completely untrue because according to Lolo, Sanjay and she are in the process of buying a new and bigger apartment in Bandra and would be shortly shifting into it.
A friend close to the couple clarifies that these stories are completely untrue. Says the friend, "It is very natural for all married couple to need space. And with a baby around, there is a bigger space crunch too. Also Kareena too stays with her mom.
Besides Karisma found it very inconvenient to entertain guests as Sanjay often entertained whenever he was in the city. Since it was getting a bit crammed up, they shifted to an apartment at MAY FLOWER, near OLIVE"
The friend adds, "But right now, they are also in the process of buying a new place in Bandra for which the paperwork is going on. Once that's done, they will shift to their permanent home. Also Bebo may shift to her new apartment in Bandra soon as grown up children need the personal space too, which is quite natural"
The friend also clarifies that both Lolo & Babita were quite upset over the unnecessary fuss created over a non- issue.

But, yes, the quantity of love that I receive on this day is overwhelming," laughed Hrithik shyly. He was up and about from early in the morning."I wanted to make sure I answered each one of the greetings personally before Hrehaan gets up," he added.Alas, Hrithik proposes, Hrehaan disposes. The scion of the Roshan family was up and about claiming Papa's attentions. And Hrithik was happy to give it all."The last year I've really had no time for the family. The injury has given me a chance to be at home and spend time with my wife and son," he said. And how was the birthday celebrated this year?"Every year I like to do something associated with my work on my birthday. As luck would have it, on the evening before my birthday, it was the launch of my 'Jodhaa-Akbar' music. I loved that. It was one of the most well-organised music functions of my career. After that it was friend Ambika Hinduja's engagement party. So we went for that. Then we were home for the rest of the evening," Hritik said.So where was the cake and the rest of the birthday trappings?"Oh! All that happened. Suzanne always makes sure my birthdays are special," the actor sai with a smile.

Govt will decide on fuel price hike today
The ministerial panel on commodity prices is scheduled to meet on Thursday to discuss the domestic impact of high international crude prices. The panel, being headed by external affairs minister Pranab Mukherjee, is expected to recommend an increase of Rs 2-3 a litre in petrol price and Rs 1-2 per litre in diesel. "The GoM (group of ministers) is meeting tomorrow and I hope a decision is taken," oil minister Murli Deora, who is a member of the panel, said on Wednesday but declined to speculate on the quantum of increase that could be approved. The panel may also recommend a reduction in customs and excise levies to keep the increase on the lower side. The oil ministry is pushing for an increase of Rs 4 a litre on petrol and Rs 2 on diesel. But such a steep increase may not pass the political muster of the ministerial panel. Last time the prices were increased by this amount, political pressure forced a rollback. What looks possible is a moderate increase of Rs 2-2.50 on petrol and Rs 1-1.50 on diesel. The increase could be on the lower side if the decision to increase prices comes with some reduction in excise and customs levies.
When Amrita Rao visited a striptease club...
One of the most decent and homely girls around in Bolly town, Amrita Rao is one of the few actresses who has always maintained her dignity about herself when she is working on the sets and otherwise too. But everyone has moments in their lives when they allow that crazy instinct get over the sanity in them. And Amrita too was not any different when she went for an ad film shoot that was held in Sydney, Australia.
This was before she made her presence felt in the modeling world. Mostly accompanied by her Mom wherever she goes, this time the actress had another female model who was a friend for company and also a guy from the modeling agency. Amrita was sharing her room with this model friend and both had completed the shoot on the last day and were all set to take the 7 am early morning flight the next day. Amrita’s roommate was least interested to catch a wink and so tagged the actress along in the dead of the night for an outing. Amrita agreed for the only fact that it was impossible for her to sleep alone all by herself. Sydney is known to be a happening place by night and so at 3 am early morning the twain ventured out to check on a few bars. After walking down a few blocks, the two found themselves entering a female striptease bar. Amrita realized the very instant that she was underage and not qualified to enter the bar yet 10 dollars was all it took to get herself inside. And after witnessing the scenes within, Amrita promised herself that it would be her first and final experience of the sort. Along with her roommate, she literally for the first time saw women stripping from top to bottom. If that wasn’t enough the women also went on to perform nude pole dances. The whole scenario did not in the least way appeal to Amrita as she and her friend were the only girls in that room apart from the guy from the modeling agency. She was so taken aback with the whole experience that she was sure she did not want to be seeing the same kind of scenes ever again.

'Halla Bol' crashes at box office
Mumbai, (IANS) Rajkumar Santoshi's political commentary "Halla Bol" has received a mixed response in its opening week. While the audiences in the western circuit have rejected the movie, it is doing reasonably well in some pockets in north India.
Box office collections in Mumbai started dropping from the second show of its opening day last Friday (Jan 11). The movie notched a lacklustre Mumbai territory opening with 70 percent collections, considered unusual for an Ajay Devgan starrer.Bollywood trade circles were taken by surprise when the collections in cinemas in Mumbai dropped to as low as 42 percent after the opening day. The box office graph tilted downwards in all major suburban circuits. The verdict is now clear. Though appreciated critically, "Halla Bol" is the first debacle of 2008.But the movie has been doing reasonably well in some pockets in north India. A leading Mumbai distributor attributes this moderate success to the political culture of the north."It was expected. The political undertone explicit in the movie is akin to the political culture of the North. Cine-goers in the north generally like movies that have a fair amount of action. 'Haala Bol' has it in ample measure. The action scenes in the movie, as in all Raj Kumar Santoshi movies, are nicely executed to boost the narration. Maybe, audience in other centres squirmed at the movie's political content," a leading Mumbai distributor, not wishing to be named, told IANS Monday.

Dino Morea smitten by little Nano
Nano, the little wonder car unveiled by Tata Group chairman Ratan Tata at the Auto Expo in New Delhi, is making a splash in Bollywood too. Actor Dino Morea is smitten by the Rs.100,000 people's car and plans to buy one to make a style statement. The actor-producer, who smouldered in Dus Kahaniyaan, feels, "All good things come in small packages." "This car is unique and has built a lot of curiosity in me, because of which I would like to purchase it," Dino said. The actor feels that the car is not only good "size-wise but also price wise". While the world is craving for expensive cars to flaunt their attitude, the actor is keen for something "fresh and economical". Now that's what we call the new style statement.
Amitabh needs a 50 plus heroine
After Cheeni Kum you would have expected another enterprising filmmaker to bring the glorious Bachchan-Tabu pair together. And so it was, when Shoojit Sircar of Yahaan fame decided to make a film about a 50-plus couple who discover togetherness and love. Interestingly the script written by Renzel D'Silva of Rang De Basanti fame is inspired by a concept from a Hollywood film."That Hollywood film is yet to be made. But my producers UTV decided to acquire proper copyrights anyway. When we told Mr. Bachchan about the subject, he too approved of getting the proper

Govinda shows off fists of fury, slaps visitor on sets
New Delhi: Bollywood actor Govinda showed off fists of fury on Wednesday afternoon when he slapped an alleged trespasser on the sets of his new film Money Hai To Honey Hai in Mumbai.
While addressing a press conference on the sets of the film the actor slapped the onlooker in full view of the cameras. However, Govinda said he had a good reason for his behaviour.
“I had been noticing him for a long time and saw him misbehaving with other artists. When I questioned him he very nonchalantly said he is an outsider. So, then he should be outside,” Govinda said.

Tom Cruise eyed Jennifer Garner before pursuing Katie
Washington, Jan 16: Tom Cruise had his sights set on Jennifer Garner before beginning his whirlwind romance with Katie Holmes, according to a controversial biography. In ‘Tom Cruise: An Unauthorized Biography’, British journalist and writer Andrew Morton claims that the ‘Mission Impossible’ star tried his luck with Garner before making Holmes his wife. Morton alleges that Cruise constantly left voicemails on Garner’s phone asking if she “knew what freedom was.” However, according to the author, the actor’s advances were turned down, reports Usmagazine.com. The biography also claims that Holmes signed a contract to commit to Scientology and that her father brokered a high-paying pre-nup. The Church of Scientology, which appears to be the real subject of the book, has issued an extensive statement dismissing some of the book`s most sensational allegations. It snubbed the contents of the book as "vicious sensationalism of the lowest order" filled with "false and scandalous allegations". "Insinuations that Cruise is second-in-command of the Church are not only false, they are ludicrous," the statement added.
Taare Zameen Par smashes box office, nets Rs.770 mn
Actor-turned-director Amir Khan's directorial debut Taare Zameen Par - a moving tale of a boy with learning disability - has set the box office tills ringing. It has netted Rs.770 million in its fourth week.
The movie, running neck-on-neck with last year's superhit Om Shanti Om in terms of business, may even surpass the blockbuster featuring Shah Rukh Khan if it continues to sweep the box-office for a few more weeks.
Though the collections had slightly dropped in the third week of its release to hover around 60 percent, it picked up again this week. More than the media hype, it is the favourable word-of-mouth publicity that actually boosted its box-office performance.
In Mumbai, collections registered 58 percent last week. But after the Maharashtra government exempted the movie from entertainment tax (60 percent of the total ticket price), collections have climbed to 62 percent this week.

Jodhaa: 15th February is final
A number of stories concerning JODHAA AKBAR are doing the rounds of the industry. The topic of discussion is that the film won't make it on the scheduled date since the post-production isn't complete yet [it's currently in the mixing stages] and Ashutosh Gowariker is in no mood to hurry things up. Translated into simple terms, it means the historical might not make it on 15th February, the final date locked by Gowariker and UTV.
Another story [rumour] doing the rounds is that the dubbed Tamil and Telugu versions are likely to be delayed as well, since the makers would be keen to get the Hindi version in place first. Which means, the South version would be pushed ahead by a couple of weeks.
“Absolutely false,” Siddharth Roy Kapur of UTV sets the record straight, “The Hindi version as well as the dubbed Tamil and Telugu versions will have the same day and date release. There's no question of a postponement now. I hope people stop speculating.”
But what everyone's curious to know is the final length of this colossal historical. There're murmurs that the film will be of 3 + hour duration. Await the official announcement from Gowariker on that one!

Big B didn't let me touch feet
The bonding between Bangla auteur Rituparno Ghosh and national icon Amitabh Bachchan in Kolkata on the sets of The Last Lear is now fodder for instant folklore. So amused and exasperated was the Big B by Ritu's physical makeover that he constantly ribbed the director about it. Fondly recalling the experience of working with what the director considers to be greatest entertainer in showbiz, Ritu says, "Amitda wouldn't let me hear the end of my physical change. You see, I've lost twelve kgs and I've shaved my head. Amitda nicknamed me 'Adolf' and insisted on holding on to a mock-mood of terror on the sets.

The hunky actor's huge fan ensured that he won a public poll organised by Madame Tussauds on just who should be the next Bollywood superstar immortalised in wax. Sallu's competition included the Madhuri Dixit, Lata Mangeshkar and fellow hunk Hrithik Roshan. On his new status Salman Khans says it is amassing. The best part is that I want the fans to be there. Madame Tussauds is a famous wax museum in London with branches in a number of major cities. It was set up by wax sculptor Marie Tussaud.

Shame: Rape is India’s fastest growing crime
Rape is the fastest growing crime in the country, shows government data, even as reports of sexual crimes, including those against foreign tourists, continue to pour in from across India.
The latest crime statistics, pertaining to 2006, released by the Home Ministry’s National Crime Records Bureau (NCRB) show that every hour 18 women become victims of crime. The number of rapes a day has increased nearly 700 per cent since 1971 — when such cases were first recorded by NCRB. It has grown from seven cases a day to 53.
The figure grew 5.5 per cent over the number of cases registered in 2005.

Taare Zameen Par' makes Advani cry
Senior Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) leader L.K. Advani showed his emotional side when he could not control his tears after watching Bollywood star Aamir Khan's directorial debut 'Taare Zameen Par', a movie about a dyslexic child.
Aamir had arranged a special screening of the film for Advani, a Hindi film buff, and a few MPs at Prasar Bharati's Film Division auditorium here Friday.
Advani was all praise for the movie and its director. According to informed sources, he said he had not seen such a good movie for a long time.
Praising Aamir, Advani said the dyslexic child's struggle to overcome his shortcomings was a difficult subject that had been handled well.
'Both the director and the scriptwriter must be complimented. After years, I have seen such a film. Congratulations to the filmmakers,' Advani told reporters later.
In 2001, Advani had seen 'Lagaan', again an Aamir starrer, and liked it immensely. The movie was nominated for the Oscar but lost to 'No Man's Land'.
The sources said Aamir flew down from Mumbai for the screening when one of his relatives, close to Advani, informed him that the leader of the opposition was keen to watch his movie.
Advani has been a film critic and used to write about movies during his days as a journalist. He continues to be a movie buff.

Shah Rukh Khan injured
The one quality in Shah Rukh Khan that seems more appreciable than all others is the generosity with which he supports his friends and protégés. The most recent beneficiary of his largesse is the My Name Is Anthony Gonsalves wanna-shine Nikhil Dwivedi. Not only has Shah Rukh been supporting Dwivedi’s starry dreams he has also been making sure the boy is seen in public places with the superstar.
After making his presence felt at the music release of Nikhil's film, Shah Rukh showed up at the film's premiere on Wednesday night with his leg obviously in pain. The star had injured his leg while rehearsing his steps for the Screen awards. "It was really very nice of him," says Nikhil. "The injury was an old one. But he hurt himself in the same leg while rehearsing for his performance at the awards." Shah Rukh couldn't stay for the whole film. Nevertheless, promised to catch up with My Name Is Anthony Gonsalves in a couple of days.
