Narnia's third edition to hit theatres in 2010

The third film in the super hit fantasy franchise, "Narnia: The Voyage of the Dawn Treader" has been set for a winter release in December 2010.

The films, based on a seven book series by C S Lewis, have been a huge success, with the two film installments grossing over USD 2 billion as box office collections.

The producers of the film, reportedly chose a winter release because the second film, "The Chronicles of Narnia: Prince Caspian" which was released in May, 2008 did not do as well as the first film, "The Chronicles of Narnia", which had a December release in 2005.

The film hopes to cash in on the festive Christmas spirit to achieve box office success, reported the Aceshowbiz.com.

The film was expected to release earlier but the delay suggests that the studio feels that "Narnia" franchise is "winter material".

"The Chronicles of Narnia: The Voyage of the Dawn Treader" will be directed by Michael Apted and will mark the comeback of the original star cast of Ben Barnes, Skandar Keynes and Georgie Henley.

In the latest installment, Lucy and Edmund Pevensie will make their third trip back to Narnia. Accompanied by their cousin Eustace, they meet up with Prince Caspian on a trip across the sea.
