I want to kill Shah Rukh's wife: Vidya Balan

This year Vidya is done with searching for various bylanes to her screen identity. She wants to films with substance and purpose.

Perhaps the fact that directors like Sajid Khan for whom she went glam have gone to other leading ladies has something to do with Vidya's decision.

"All my forthcoming films have a sharp sense of social purpose, and that definitely includes Vibhu Puri's Chenab Gandhi which I'm enormously excited about because it's produced by Sanjay Leela Bhansali."

Vidya has been attending costume and reading sessions for Chenab Gandhi and is spellbound by the script. "But I haven't really interacted that much with my co-star Hurman as yet. With Mr Bachchan who plays the title role, I share a lifelong bonding.

Right from Eklavya we've been paired in so many films right up to Chenab Gandhi and now Balki's Pa. If I did all the films last year that I was offered with Mr Bachchan I wouldn't be working with anyone else, " says Vidya, adding she's excited to work with Abhishek Bachchan for the first time in Pa.

"We've never been paired together. It would be interesting to have another interesting co-star to work with, " says Vidya who went to Panchgani for her birthday this year, with her parents, sister and brother-in-law.

"It's very rare for all five of us in the family to be together. My birthday falls on a very unforgettable day, the New Year. It's preceded by Christmas, so we all take time off to be together.

Another advantage of being born on the first day of the year is, no one can claim to forget your birthday, " she says with loud laughter.

Pussy Cat Dolls cover Jai Ho

American girl band, The Pussycat Dolls (PCD) have come out with a raunchy version of the Oscar-nominated Jai Ho, composed by A R Rahman from the Slumdog Millionaire soundtrack.

It's still undecided if they're calling this a cover or a remake or even a remix.

The Grammy-nominated PCD have simply added their vocals to this Polow Da Don (a popular producer of pop tracks) production of Rahman's award-winning track.

Apparently, the multi-platinum selling PCD is planning on doing a covers album. So far, they have covered the Rihanna and Chris Brown duet Bad Girl and now, it's Jai Ho's turn.

Pinto dumps boyfriend of four years

London, Feb 15 (IANS) Indian actress Freida Pinto, who shot to fame with the success of her film "Slumdog Millionaire", has dumped her boyfriend of four years.

Mirror.co.uk reports that the 24-year-old Rohan is upset and is convinced she will come back. The two met at St. Xavier's University in Mumbai and soon came very close.

A friend said: "They were really into each other. Rohan would do anything for Freida. They were best pals as well as lovers. While together he helped her develop her website, did publicity and marketing for her and even fixed her dresses before the fashion shoots."

"Freida called off the engagement after the film took off. She could never have imagined how rapidly her career would grow and it's all been overwhelming. Since the release of the film, she's hardly been in Mumbai and even when she is, she's too busy working. Whether it's permanent or temporary she's not sure, but for now they are not together. But Rohan took it very badly. He is cut up about it now and hoping they will get back together. He has still not changed his relationship status on Facebook - it still says he is engaged. But no one else believes she will come back now. She is off pursuing her dreams."

There are rumours that the 24-year-old Pinto and her 18-year-old co-star Dev Patel are more than friends. Patel had earlier said: "She is very beautiful. Absolutely gorgeous. Everyone's agreed on that. But there's no romance, no."

Slumdog not confident of Oscar sweep: Anil

Bollywood actor Anil Kapoor, who stars in Danny Boyle's underdog drama Slumdog Millionaire, has revealed that the movie's team is "not feeling confident" for the Oscar ceremony on February 22 despite 10 nominations.

"We've always been the underdogs. None of us really feel confident, we are just very grateful to all the fans and to at least be nominated," he was quoted as saying.

"To be honest, wherever we've gone, we've gone not expecting anything. We're so overawed with what we've got and God has always been kind to us. It's been wonderful," he added.

Starring debutants Dev Patel and Freida Pinto in the lead, the drama set in Mumbai won seven BAFTA awards last weekend as well as four Golden Globes last month.

Anil plays the host of the Indian version of the TV show Who Wants to be a Millionaire? in the film.

Ash dazzled at Pink Panther 2, Eddie is back to tickle

Bollywood superstar, Aishwarya Rai Bachchan was grabbing eyeballs at the Berlin premiere of Pink Panther 2 on Friday night. The Bollywood beauty looked glamorous in a dazzling pink gown as she walked hand-in-hand with co-star Steve Martin.

And she didn't just pose for the shutter bugs, she even took out time to talk about the film that's sweeping all the awards Slumdog Millionaire.

“Good luck to the entire team. It has received so much appreciation of course based in India. There's a lot of Indian talent in it. Rahman has won his Golden Globe and he's a wonderfully talented musician. It's wonderful to see the world wake up to his talent,” says Aishwarya.

Steve Martin spoke about his love for Berlin on the red carpet.

"I love Berlin. You know, this is the first time I've been outside the hotel. But I've been here before and thoroughly enjoyed this city. I was here when the wall was up and we made excursions into East Berlin as tourists. And I thought the museums there were beautiful. I'm so glad the city is united. And I love the artistic enthusiasm of the city, it feels enthusiastic about culture and the arts and the people feel very on the cutting edge of art,” says actor Steve Martin.

It is a love for the arts that translates on the big screen as well. Pink Panther 2 is Steve Martin's second outing as Inspector Clouseau, who tries to stop an globe-trotting thief who specialises in stealing historical artifacts.

Dev D strikes gold at the box office

After creating a buzz among audiences with its grunge soundtrack and promos, Anurag Kashyap's Dev D, a modern take on Devdas, struck gold at the box office by raking in Rs.95 million at the opening weekend.

The inclusion of real life cases like the MMS scandal at Delhi Public School and the BMW hit and run accident in the movie is luring the audiences, say film experts.

"Dev D has proven its mettle by pulling in audiences in hordes - especially youngsters. The film has selling material in terms of content. Incidents like the DPS MMS scandal, the BMW case and colloquial language has further led to its triumph at the box office," Joginder Mahajan, a Delhi-based distributor, told IANS.

Releasing after a dull week that saw Luck By Chance and Victory, Kashyap's film opened to positive reviews and was houseful at the weekend. Produced by UTV Spotboy and Bindass, Dev D stars Abhay Deol with newcomers Mahi Gill and Kalki Koechlin.

Girish Johar, associate vice-president of UTV Motion Pictures, said: "Dev D is one of our premium products and it has managed to generate a very good hype among our target audience (youth). We are hoping it will have a long run at the box office."

Kashyap's contemporary take on Sarat Chandra Chattopadhyay's classic novel has sidelined simultaneous releases Mere Khwabon Mein Jo Aaye and Chal Chala Chal.

"The other two releases Mere Khwabon Mein... and Chal Chala Chal have been total failures. They are only gap fillers," said Mahajan.

"Mere Khwabon Mein..., which has Arbaaz Khan, Randeep Hooda and Raima Sen in the lead, was snubbed by the audiences and couldn't garner more than five percent collection. Helmed by debutante director Madhureeta Anand, the film has been co-produced by PVR Pictures and Madhureeta's company Ekaa Films Pvt Ltd.

The budget for Dev D and Mere Khwabon Mein... was the same. The producers invested around Rs.60 million excluding the publicity costs. In terms of prints, Dev D was released on more than 300 screens globally, Mere Khwabon Mein... hit around 200 screens.
Govinda starrer "Chal Chala Chal", which was directed by T.K. Rajeev Kumar, too failed to impress the movie buffs.

"Dev D is all set to be the second big hit of 2009 after Raaz - The Mystery Continues. It breaks the very stereotype of the legend of Devdas and that is where it scores the winning goal," added the source.

On the whole, Dev D has fair business chances till Shah Rukh Khan starrer Billu and Rakeysh Omprakash Mehra's Delhi 6 hit the screens on Feb 13 and Feb 20, respectively.

Neil goes ga-ga over Bipasha

Any actor would love to hog the limelight for a film, especially when he is just one film old and is paired opposite a leading lady who has been around for more than seven years. But Neil Nitin Mukesh doesn't mind acknowledging Bipasha Basu's towering presence in his upcoming release Aa Dekhen Zara.

"Bipasha is a huge part of Aa Dekhen Zara. In fact, I can go on to state that she is 'the story' of the film. This character of Ray Acharya that I play in the film would not have decided to do anything in life if not for her," Neil said.

"Since I can't reveal much about the film's plot, all I can say is that whatever steps he takes in his intriguing journey of life, he does it for her," added Neil as his admiration for Bipasha, who had a successful 2008 with both Race and Bachna Ae Haseeno, becomes evident.

One can't help but remember his leading lady from Johnny Gaddar who didn't have a big role to play in the all-men thriller by Sriram Raghavan. Rimmi Sen was important to the plot of Johnny Gaddar, but did not see much screen time.

One hopes that Bipasha hasn't been roped in by director Jehangir Surti for Aa Dekhen Zara just for glamour quotient.

"That's definitely not the case," protested Neil. "She is not just any other leading lady in a romantic thriller. She contributes immensely to the film's graph and is simply phenomenal in the role of Simi Chatterjee."

While Bipasha plays a DJ in Aa Dekhen Zara, Neil enacts the role of a struggling photographer.

"She was mind blowing in Race. Actually, she was the best thing about Race. You could see that she was so pivotal to the film's narrative. Same is the case in Aa Dekhen Zara as well", said Neil.

So are we looking at yet another negative portrayal of the lead actors in Aa Dekhen Zara?
